What to expect from your green holiday in West Wales
The outbuildings and acres of Banceithin were unloved for many years. Out of the mess we’ve created a home, two eco-friendly Welsh holiday cottages, a wildlife haven and thriving smallholding. Our home is your home.

A warm Welsh holiday welcome
Come on in!
Whatever the season you’ll find a welcoming spray of flowers and grasses from our own cutting patch and gardens. A home baked loaf of traditional Welsh tea bread awaits you, perfect with a cup of tea as you unwind from your journey. The wood burning stove is made up ready to light, with plenty of logs provided for your first evening.
We’re happy to prepare the cottage with bunting or other decorations on request as an extra surprise for that special someone for birthdays and anniversaries.
Local Produce
Frozen home cooked meals, meat from select local producers, and sausages from our own pigs are available to buy in the Games Room. Home made, wood oven cooked pizzas are available to order every Wednesday evening from May to August.
Buy fresh eggs from our chickens, honey from our bees, and a selection of home made preserves from our honesty box “Market Stall”.
Each cottage has a “Banceithin Bible”, our personally curated guide on where to find the best locally made produce, bread, cheese and tasty Welsh goodies to enjoy on your holiday or to take home as gifts for family and friends.

Things to do
Our four greedy sheep are always happy to say hello and in spring and summer there are pigs to meet; children are welcome help check for eggs in the chicken coop.
Nature guides, binoculars and pond dipping kit are available for wildlife explorers. For younger children, there’s a Nature Adventure Box packed with ideas for outdoor fun, and a treehouse for den building. For everyone else, there’s a giant outdoor chessboard and shared indoor Games Room with dartboard and table tennis table.
On rainy days, if you don’t want to splash around in wellies, there are stacks of DVDs, board games and jigsaws to keep everyone busy.
Tranquility
In keeping with our rural location, there is no mobile network coverage on site, but each cottage has its own wi-fi access. For those guests who prefer a digital-detox holiday, the wi-fi can be disabled.
Switch off, retreat from the stresses and strains of everyday life. Watch the red kites soar above. Wander the smallholding, nose around the veg plot or chat to the animals. Swing in the hammock by the stream. Take your book to a quiet corner for a peaceful read with just the birds for company. Cook your dinner and toast marshmallows over the fire pit while the sun goes down.

Dark skies
Our smallholding is in one of the areas with the darkest skies in the UK and we have three Dark Sky Discovery Sites in Ceredigion. If you’re an astronomer bring your telescope to take advantage of our fantastic celestial views.
On a clear night you can look up at the sky and marvel at the stars and the brightness of the Milky Way with nothing but the naked eye. A star chart and binoculars are provided in each cottage for all us amateur star gazers, but for those who want to see a little more detail, a basic level telescope is provided in Hen Ffermdy cottage for guests to take out into the garden.
Bancethin is an absolute haven. We often stay in holiday cottages and l can honestly say the attention to detail, thought and care administered by Philippa & David was second to none. They are obviously passionate about their beautiful home, and l felt privileged to stay there. The focus on sustainable living, recycling and customer service was a joy to experience. The owners have an artistic eye and the cottage reflects this, such detail. The games room and market stall was well thought out and visitors are free to roam (considerately) around the small holding meeting sheep, pigs, chickens, bees…. There were even home made pizzas on Wednesdays (delicious l must add) Fully recommended we had a fantastic relaxing break.
Lovely, well equipped cottage, with lots of unique features. The Games Room was great and had a freezer with home made meals, the rhubarb and ginger crumble was delicious. Lovely and helpful hosts, a really lovely stay,
This was a return visit for us. The cottage is in lovely countryside. It has everything you need for a comfortable self-catering holiday. You can purchase delicious homemade evening meals, fresh eggs from their hens and homemade jams. This is one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in. Excellent info pack.
